Empty Promises
Empty promises – a promise that is either not going to be carried out, worthless or meaningless.
I have experienced a whole lifetime filled with empty promises. I’m not gonna lie, even though you know what the outcome might be, you still find yourself holding on to hope, all while keeping yourself guarded in preparation for the pending disappointment.
It really grinds my gears, people who talk a big game, but fail to deliver.
If you know me, you will know that if I say I’m gonna do something, I absolutely will not let you down. When I make promises to others, I go above and beyond to make sure that I keep that promise. We want to keep our word, we have the desire to be viewed as reliable. (Well, that’s how I roll)
What I’ve come to appreciate is, I can’t control what others say or do, sometimes they have the best intentions, and they forget or life gets in the way. Sometimes they are simply full of shit. Fullstop.
Trust me, I could go on and on about this, but instead I want you to know that this kōrero today is to remind you to do you boo. If you make promises to yourself, keep them!
Sadly, when we make promises to ourselves, we may not be as enthusiastic and driven to keep them. We get comfortable with moving our things around and pushing them to a later date. We convince ourselves that there is plenty of time. It’s all good if we don’t start today, we can always start next week.
Hold yourself accountable just as you would do to another person. If you say you’re gonna do it, bloody do it would ya!
Life’s too short for broken promises!
The hurt and frustration you feel when someone doesn’t keep their promise should be the same when you don’t keep promises to yourself, the promises you make to yourself are just as important as those you make to others.
Respect yourself and your time, keep that promise x
